Sneaky, toxic ingredients have many harmful effects on our bodies however, hormone disruption is a real concern. There are many preservatives that alter our bodies hormones causing estrogen disruption. Too much estrogen can trigger an increase in breast cell division and growth of tumors. It is believed that parabens are linked to breast cancer.
Tips for reading labels:
- Less is better: if the ingredients list is too long, or you can’t pronounce some of the ingredients, they probably contain toxins.
- “Natural” can mean anything: The term “natural” is not regulated which means that even toxic products can use the word “natural” to market themselves. Better descriptors to look for are “100% non-toxic,” or “toxin free.”
